Odd fitting jacket. I went with other online reviews saying the shoulders on this jacket are small so go a size up. It's a little roomy but it did turn out that the shoulders were tight. Where it gets odd is the sleeve length. The sleeve length is not constant with the shoulder width. I have wide shoulders, 6'0 with a 50" chest and a long reach. Jackets sleeves for me usually pull back to my forearm when I reach out. The sleeves on this jacket come to my finger tips if they're not cuffed . The shoulder seam is right above my armpit like it should be. Maybe, I got a defect or a second. It was almost 60% off at time of purchase.
Only other thing is the collar makes me feel like Spawn it sticks up so high. I get why it's like this, for weather protection on the water and such. Laying it down is not possible to do with the hood rolled up in it.
The comfortable temp range for me with this jacket is 30-55 degrees. Its not very thick, kinda of cold day wind breaker. Not something I'd rely on for a full day of cold. Not sure about the waterproofing yet. I was on the dock at night and turned on the hose bib thinking it was connected to the hose but it wasn't. Water sprayed my arm. Which did get wet, but I'm not sure if it just got by the cuff and went up my arm.
I'd say I most certainly bought this jacket for the brand name. Thus making me a brand hoe. But, you'd hope that buying a brand name like Helly Hansen would deliver some redeeming features. One would hope that a popular brand became popular through quality. That said, I'm in a country that just elected a game show host with no experience to command the world's last crumbling super power. Definitely having some buyer's remorse even at 60% off. Not really impressed with HH so far. This is my second jacket I've bought of theirs for this season. I doubt I'll be back.
That said: If you like this jacket, go for it. It's not terrible by any means and it might work for you. Just don't remove the tags until you are absolutely sure this is a good fit. Seriously, sleep on it. You may feel like returning it in the morning.
